WELCOME TO YAO FAMILY WINES

A FAMILY WINERY FOUNDED BY BASKETBALL GREAT YAO MING

Yao family favicon

The Chinese chop, or seal, dates from the Shang Dynasty (商朝 - shāng cháo), which ruled from 1600 BC to 1046 BC. Today, it is used as a family emblem, a signature, to be used on legal documents and ensure the integrity of the process. Yao Ming's chop is our promise to you that our wines are made with the finest grapes, attention to detail, and unbridled passion.

THE WORLD'S FIRST WINE + NFT COLLECTIBLE

Yao Ming NFT

Yao Family Wines, the critically acclaimed Napa Valley winery founded by retired basketball star and global humanitarian Yao Ming, is releasing its most exclusive wine “THE CHOP” paired with a limited edition NFT. Yao Family Wines becomes the first winery in the world to offer a wine for auction paired with a NFT digital collectible.

The CHOP DROP is live!

A special auction will be held for bottle #11 of THE CHOP and NFT #11, a one-of-one offering in homage to the year that Yao Family Wines released its first vintage, and for the number Yao Ming wore during his NBA career.

THE CHOP 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon is produced from a single barrel of wine from a single vineyard in the famed Rutherford District of Napa Valley. Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate awarded THE CHOP 2016 96+ points.

Yao Ming Family Reserve Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2016

Appearance exhibits deep dark purple color with intense hues.  This wine is elegant and powerful.  There is focused fruit with pronounced plum, blackberry and currant.  The fruit is framed with barrel notes of toast and baking spice.  The palate has rich yet, supple, lush depth from integrated tannin structure.  The wine comes together on the finish and lingers on the back of the palate providing a long finish.  This wine is approachable now and will age for many years.  It is very elegant.

The 2016 growing season was an average yielding vintage in the Napa Valley due to set.  We had good balance on the fruiting wire.  This is a year that allowed the winemaker focus on harvest and bring out the essence of the vintage.

Harvest Information

Mid through late October 2016.  Grapes were harvested at an average of 26.2°Brix.

"These are high class wines. The two Cabernets are actually brilliant, and the Reserve bottling ranks alongside just about anything made in Napa." - Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate
